Let's face it, some "emergency" ponchos out there are a one-time use. They might last you over night, but that's it, and if you're out for longer than that, you could be in some serious trouble. Unfortunately, some of the more sturdy ponchos can be heavy and bulky, something you'd be tempted to leave behind when the sun is shining.
This GI style, rip-stop nylon poncho is an excellent solution! It's very light and compact, but puncture and rip resistant...sturdy enough to last you a long time. Go ahead! Take it out and use it again and again...practice your survival skills. This poncho will hold up well, and it's light enough you won't hesitate to bring it along, so it will be there when you need it for a real emergency. It works great to cover you and equipment when it rains and can be used to rig a shelter if you need to spend an unexpected night outside. When laid out flat, the poncho measures approximately 53" x 80".

I wasn't expecting much from a 20$ poncho, but it turned out to be great! it's large and waterproof, and both sides of the poncho are held together by sturdy buttons. The poncho has holes with ropes on its four corners.
I've been wearing it for hiking, and then making a shelter out of it above my bivy bag for the night, and it's still in perfect condition!
In addition, the day it gets torn or damaged, it won't be a pain to change it, for that price!
